Schwarzkopf, heeft een grote
overname in de Verenigde Sta
ten gedaan. Henkei koopt voor
2,9 miljard dollar Dial Corp uit
Arizona, dat onder meer was-
poeders, luchtverfrissers en
voedingsmiddelen produceert.
De nieuwe aanwinst is in 65
landen actief, maar het meren
deel van de omzet wordt op de
Amerikaanse markt behaald.
Om de overname te financie-
ren, zal Henkei enkele belangen
verkopen. Het familiebedrijf
denkt daarbij aan minderheids
belangen in Clorox en Eocolab,
zo werd vanochtend bekendge
maakt. Bij Dial werken 2900
mensen en is de omzet 1,3 mil
jard dollar.

nen van Corns Nederland.
Daardoor hoeft er minder een
beroep te worden gedaan op
een kredietlijn van 1,2 miljard
euro van banken, wat de rente
lasten drukt. Dat heeft een
woordvoerder van Corns maan
dag bevestigd.
Corns Nederland heeft een ste
vige kaspositie. „Door het geld
uit te lenen, ontvangen we een
hogere rente dan als we het op
de bank laten staan", zei de
woordvoerder. Volgens Corns
Nederland bestaan er strakke
afspraken voor de terugbetaling
van het bedrag. Het bestuur
van de onderneming heeft in
middels ingestemd met de le
ning. Alleen de ondernemings
raad moet nog akkoord gaan.
De lening van dochter aan
moeder kent een looptijd van
een maand. „We bekijken een
eventuele verlenging ook per
maand." De lening staat los van
de aandelenemissie, waarbij
voor een (netto) bedrag van 291
miljoen pond sterling 1,3 mil
jard aandelen werden uitgege
ven. Dat geld wordt voor gro
tendeels gebruikt voor een re
organisatie in Groot-Brittannië.
De opbrengst van de emissie
gaat geheel voorbij aan de Ne
derlandse dochter.

per direct opgestapt. Vorige
week werd op de aandeelhou
dersvergadering al bekend dat
zijn arbeidscontract tot eind ju
ni 2004 niet zou worden ver
lengd. De Ruiter kwam onder
vuur omdat hij een accountant
opdracht zou hebben gegeven
om bij de overname van pro
jectontwikkelaar MDC door een
strenge taxatie van de boeken
de overnameprijs omlaag te
krijgen. De accountant zou
daarvoor 3 miljoen euro ont
vangen. De accountant zou niet
alleen het boekenonderzoek
doen, maar was look bij de af
ronding van de overname be
trokken. Dat is tegen de regels.
Het geld heeft hij nooit ontvan-
genen er volgde ontslag.

strijd om de Britse supermarkt
keten Safeway is waarschijnlijk
voorbij. Concurrent Wm Morri
son Supermarkets legde van
daag een nieuw bod op tafel
van 3 miljard pond sterling (4,3
miljard euro), dat de steun
heeft van de directie van Safe
way. Om ontevreden aandeel
houders van Safeway tegemoet
te komen, zal Wm Morrison
een gedeelte (636 miljoen
pond) in contanten betalen.
Grote concurrenten als Tesco,
Asda en J Sainsbury waren ook
geïnteresseerd in Safeway,
maar hun biedingen werden
vorige week door de Britse kar
telautoriteiten definitief niet ge
accepteerd omdat zij daarmee
een te machtige positie zouden
verkrijgen.
Morrison is een middelgrote
supermarktonderneming, die
vooral in het noorden van En
geland actief is. Door de over
name wordt het familiebedrijf
de op twee na grootste uitbater
van supermarkten in Groot-
Brittannië, achter Sainsbury en
de nummer een Tesco.
Morrison moet voor goedkeu
ring van de overname wel 52

de arrestatie van Saddam Hus
sein. Volgens analisten kan zijn
aanhouding de economie om
hoog helpen als de aanslagen in
Irak snel eindigen. De graad
meter in Amsterdam, de AEX-
index, stond na twee uur han
del 4,21 punten hoger op
334,13 punten, een stijging van
1,3 procent. Londen, Frankfurt
en Parijs stegen 0,9,1,5 en 1,4
procent.

De arrestatie doet de hoop on

DOLLAR IN EURO
vandaag uitgelaten. De toon
aangevende Nikkei-index sloot
met een winst van 32111 pun
ten, ofwel 3,2 procent, op
10.490,77. Ook elders in het
Verre Oosten waren flinke
koersstijgingen te zien. In Zuid-
Korea steeg de beursgraadme-
ter 2 procent en in Sydney be
droeg de winst 1,1 procent. Al
leen de Hang Seng-index in
Hong Kong viel uit de toon met
een daling van 0,6 procent.
