Beurzen eindigen week in het rood
Winst Honda
flink gestegen
tokyo - Honda heeft in het
eind maart afgesloten boekjaar
2002/2003 dankzij meer ver
koop in Azië en Europa zijn
bedrijfswinst zien stijgen van
639,2 miljard tot 689,4 miljard
yen (5,17 miljard euro). Het
bedrag komt vrijwel overeen
met wat analisten hadden ver
wacht. Netto steeg het resul
taat van 362,6 miljard tot 426,7
miljard yen (3,2 miljard euro).
De omzet van de Japanse pro
ducent van auto's en motoren
groeide van 7,36 biljoen tot
7,97 biljoen yen (60 miljard
euro).

American Express
new york - American Express
heeft in de eerste drie maan
den van dit jaar een record
winst behaald van 692 miljoen
dollar netto tegen een winst
van 618 miljoen dollar in de
zelfde periode van vorig jaar.
Bezuinigingen waren een van
de oorzaken van het record,
dat tot stand kwam ondanks
minder consumptieve uitga
ven en de zwakke gang van za
ken op de financiële markten.
De creditcardondememing
haalde een groei van zijn om
zet met 5 procent tot 6 miljard
dollar.
Hogere winst
DaimlerChrysler
stuttcart - DaimlerChrysler
heeft over het eerste kwartaal
een operationele winst be
haald van 1,4 miljard euro. Dat
is 18 procent meer dan de ver
gelijkbare periode vorig jaar.
als een eenmalige bate van 2,5
miljard euro die toen werd ge
boekt, niet wordt meegeteld.
Wereldwijd verkocht de Duits-
Amerikaanse onderneming in
drie maanden tijd een miljoen
auto's. Vooral de dure euro
droeg bij aan het omzetverlies
van in totaal 9 procent tot 33,7
miljard euro. Het concern
denkt niet de voor 2003 ver
wachte winst van 2 miljard eu
ro voor de Chrysler-divisie te
halen.

Amazon.com heeft in het eer
ste kwartaal ruim een kwart
meer omzet geboekt. De in
komsten stegen van 847 mil
joen dollar in de eerste drie
maanden van 2002 tot ruim 1
miljard dollar in die periode
dit jaar. De winst steeg tot 40,3
miljoen dollar. De resultaten
van Amazon.com waren beter
dan analisten hadden ver
wacht. Voor het gehele boek
jaar verwacht de internetwin
kel een stijging van de verko
pen met tenminste 19 procent.
Beursgenoteerde
bedrijven schuw
in communicatie

hoofd te bieden. De aanhou
dende malaise en de turbulen
te internationale ontwikkelin
gen maken bestuurders schuw.
Dat laat onderzoek van ac
countants van Ernst Young
zien. Volgens hen is het de op
telsom van het blijvend hoge
aantal winstwaarschuwingen
en de daling van het aantal
winstprognoses. Bedrijven be
sluiten dan maar voorlopig de
veilige kant te kiezen en niet te
veel duidelijkheid in hun uit
spraken te stoppen.
Ernst Young constateert dat
het aantal winstwaarschuwin
gen in het eerste kwartaal van
dit jaar is toegenomen tot
twaalf tegen acht een jaar eer
der. Tien van die winstwaar
schuwingen hadden betrekking
op het hele boekjaar 2002 en
twee op het eerste kwartaal van
2003.
Voor het eerst sinds het eerste
kwartaal van 2002 is overigens
in het eerste kwartaal van dit
jaar een afname te bespeuren
in het aantal winstwaarschu
wingen afgegeven door AEX-
fondsen, terwijl bij de MidKap-
fondsen juist een stijging was
te zien.
De belangrijkste oorzaak voor
het geven van een winstwaar
schuwing blijft 'verslechteren
de marktomstandigheden'. Het
aantal ondernemingen dat de
te nemen maatregelen aangaf
om door de moeilijke periode
heen te komen, daalde sterk.
Slechts drie van de twaalf on
dernemingen gaven daar infor
matie over. Een kwartaal eer
der gaven veertien van de ze
ventien winstwaarschuwers
nog allerlei maatregelen aan.
De onderzoekers zien dat 'we
langzaam naar een situatie
gaan waarin beursgenoteerde
fondsen hun communicatie
met hun financiële 'stakehol
ders' tot het absolute mini
mum beperken'.

VAN DE BEURSVLOER
De Europese effectenbeurzen
hebben de handelsweek met
verliezen afgesloten. Op het
Damrak moest de AEX gisteren
1.5 procent prijsgeven op een
slotstand van 278,30 punten.
Analisten schreven de koersda
lingen toe aan winstnemingen.
Aan gisteren gepubliceerde te
genvallende cijfers over de groei
van de Amerikaanse economie
in het eerste kwartaal zou het
niet liggen. In Londen sloot de
FTSE-index 0,7 procent lager,
terwijl de CAC-index in Parijs de
dag eindigde met een verlies van
1,25 procent. Op de beurs in
Frankfurt daalde de DAX-index
met 1,85 procent. Op de valuta
markten ging de koers van de
euro licht omhoog. Bij het slot
van de handel werd 1,1040 dol
lar genoteerd, in vergelijking
met 1,1020 op donderdag. De
slechte cijfers in de VS waren
wel een fikse tegenvaller voor
Amerikaanse beleggers. De cij
fers drukten de stemming flink.
De Dow-Jones sloot op een ver
lies van 1,6 procent bij een
stand van 8306,35 punten. De
technologiebeurs Nasdaq ver
loor ook 1,6 procent bij een
koers van 1434,54. Tegen de
stroom in won AMR 8,9 procent.
Het moederconcern van lucht
vaartmaatschappij American
Airlines profiteerde van het
nieuws dat de dreigende surse
ance lijkt te zijn afgewend door
een loonoffer van het personeel.
