fabrikant van netwerkappara-
tuur Cisco Systems heeft in het
afgelopen kwartaal een netto
winst geboekt van 772 miljoen
dollar. In het kwartaal ervoor
was de winst 729 miljoen dol
lar. De winst per aandeel kwam
uit op 14 dollarcent. Daarmee
heeft het bedrijf de verwachtin
gen van analisten overtroffen,
die uitgingen van 12 dollarcent.
De omzet kwam uit op 4,8 mil
jard dollar, tegen 4,3 miljard
dollar in dezelfde periode een
jaar eerder. De ontwikkelingen
bij Cisco gelden als een graad-
meter voor de gehele branche.

Uni-invest heeft zijn winst in de
eerste zes maanden van dit jaar
met bijna een vijfde zien stij
gen. Het resultaat kwam uit op
51.4 miljoen euro, tegenover
43.5 miljoen euro in dezelfde
periode een jaar eerder. Het di
recte beleggingsresultaat steeg
met 13,8 procent tot 43,3 mil
joen euro, terwijl de huurop
brengsten met 12,5 procent
omhooggingen naar 76,8 mil
joen euro. Over heel 2002 ver
wacht Uni-invest een gelijk di
rect beleggingsresultaat per
aandeel als vorig jaar.

heeft geen fouten gemaakt in
zijn informatievoorziening over
het antidepressivum Ariza. Die
conclusie heeft effectenbeurs
Euronext getrokken na een on
derzoek over de gang van zaken
rond de introductie van het
middel op de Amerikaanse
markt.
Euronext vroeg Akzo in april om
opheldering, nadat het chemie
concern bekend maakte het me
dicijn tegen de verwachting in
niet dit jaar op de Amerikaanse
markt te brengen. De koers van
het Akzo-aandeel daalde 5,7
procent na het nieuws. In de
markt gingen destijds geruchten
dat Akzo (Se informatie al eerder
had. Volgens de beursregels
moet koersgevoelige informatie
zo snel mogelijk naar buiten
worden gebracht.
De beurs constateert dat Akzo's
dochter Organon al in maart be
richt kreeg van de Amerikaanse
autoriteiten over de introductie
van Ariza, nadat het concern
toelating op de markt had ge
vraagd. De brief was echter zo
ingewikkeld, dat een speciaal
projectteam bijna een maand
nodig had voor de interpretatie
ervan. Op 9 april is de raad van
bestuur pas ingelicht, aldus Eu
ronext.
Omdat Akzo vervolgens op 11
april een persbericht de wereld
inzond, heeft het de beursregels
niet overtreden. „Dit nog afge
zien van de vraag of een derge
lijke gebeurtenis kan worden
aangemerkt als koersgevoelige
informatie", aldus Euronext in
een toelichting.
Het Duitse VARTA heeft haar
autoaccudivisies Varia Automo
tive en Varia Autobatterie ver
kocht aan het Amerikaanse
Johnson Controls voor 312,5
miljoen euro. De activiteiten
waren vorig jaar goed voor een
omzet van 590 miljoen euro.
Varia wil zich helemaal gaan
specialiseren op kleine batterij
en. Vorige week deed de onder
neming al haar batterijdivisie
voor apparaten voor 262 mil
joen euro van de hand.
De Ierse luchtvaartmaatschap
pij RYANAIR heeft in het eerste
kwartaal van haar gebroken
boekjaar een winst voor belas
tingen behaald van 39 miljoen
euro. Dit was 68 procent meer
dan in dezelfde periode vorig
jaar en meer dan analisten had
den verwacht. De omzet van de
prijsvechter steeg 29 procent
tot 194,3 miljoen euro. Ryanair
verwacht in het tweede kwar
taal de winststijging van het
eerste kwartaal niet te kunnen
Het Duitse energieconcern
EON heeft zijn belang in de
gas- en elektriciteitsleverancier
Thüga verhoogd naar ruim 86
procent. Om cüt te realiseren
heeft Eon een belang van 25,1
procent overgenomen van de
Bayerische Landesbank voor
een onbekend bedrag.
Het Japanse elektronicaconglo-
meraat FUJITSU verkoopt een
deel van zijn printeractiviteiten
aan Fuji Xerox. Over de voor
waarden zijn de partijen het
nog niet eens, maar ze pogen in
november een akkoord te be

Elders in Europa steeg de CAC-
index in Parijs 1,7 procent. De
Londense FTSE-index klom 0,9
procent. In Frankfurt leverde de
DAX-index 0,5 procent in na gis
teren ruim 7 procent te zijn ge
stegen. De euro herstelde iets
van de zware val van de voor
gaande dag. De munt steeg van
0,9640 naar 0,9680 dollar.
De beurs in Tokyo sloot van
daag met grote koerswinsten.
